Alpine G22®: A Well-Rounded Fertility Powerhouse

Creating a management plan for your farm is no small job. You need to be mindful of your crop rotation, insurance, input costs, rent or payments, field history, soil sample data, and the list goes on and on. Farming requires a strategy for supporting growth and success. One of the most important strategies on your farm is your phosphorous management. Enter Alpine G22®, a 6-22-2 low salt index starter fertilizer designed to enhance your crop production and drive energy into your plants and soils. Phosphorous is directly responsible for ATP production which is the driving force of energy in your plants. Without ATP plants will have a difficult time growing and photosynthesizing properly. No photosynthesis means no glucose production which means no food for your microbiome.

Using G22® In-Furrow

Here in Southern Alberta, we know that Mother Nature can be very unpredictable. Our planting season is generally cold, and sometimes wet, which is tough on new seedlings. Luckily, G22® is made up of 70% orthophosphate that is immediately available for plant absorption and metabolism during low phosphate and potassium times (ie. when it is cold and wet!) Making sure your plants have enough phosphorus, nitrogen, and potassium in the soil will kick-start nutrient uptake that is needed for early root growth and strong seedling development. Since G22® is a clear, filtered product, it is a great product to use in your drill since it won’t plug your orifices.

There are many advantages of using a liquid orthophosphate product over regular dry products. Placement and efficiency will always play into the success of a product. G22® is placed directly on the seed and due to the low salt index is safe at high rates. The plant doesn’t have to search for phosphate, it’s already there driving exceptional root growth in cool springs. The advancement of your plants early in the season means you can expect faster production reducing your days to harvest.

G22® As A Herbicide Safener

Your plants have emerged, there is a mass of roots below ground and more plant mass above ground daily. Everything is off to a great start but the flush of weeds is catching up to the crop. It’s time to spray, have you ever noticed your crop taking a bit of a hit or yellowing after a herbicide pass? That can be a perfectly normal response to the chemistry but have you ever wondered how much that setback can cost you in production? Adding as little as 2L/ acre of G22® with your herbicide and upping your water volume to 10 US Gal/ acre can help your crop metabolize that herbicide and push it back into production fast.

G22® As A Foliar

Many growers are aware of how important phosphorus is at seeding but did you know your plant's requirement for phos at flowering/reproduction can be twice as much? You can’t afford to run short at this crucial time of the season. A sap or tissue test can help analyze the progress of your crop and if a foliar application is warranted you would be hard-pressed to find a more cost effective and high-performing phosphorous product on the market today. The foliar efficiency of phos can be up to 10 times greater than soil-applied. By using this direct injection method of nutrient delivery you rapidly speed up production and correct issues. ALPINE has a great article on the power of foliar nutrition here.
